Before Denzel Washington had his professional acting career he was self-conscious about the gap between his front teeth (which he later had covered up with caps), according to Dena Cook (a cheerleader for the Boys Club where Washington played football) "he was always extremely shy. But what he didn't know was that he had lots of girls who liked him."
During the American Cinematheque fund-raiser honoring Denzel Washington at the Beverly Hilton in 2002, a giant photo of a “St. Elsewhere”-era Washington (actor’s front teeth still had a gap) was rolled out, host Jamie Foxx said that “those are supporting actor teeth.”
Then when he pointed to a more recent photo of Washington smiling, Foxx said that “He moved on to leading man teeth. Man, that’s a $2,500 cap.”
